On The Other Hand
When Nixon lied and nobody died many cried, "impeachment".
When Clinton lied about his very own personal sex life and nobody died,
at once many cried, "impeachment!".
Yet, when Bush lied and continues to do so, and thousands have died
and many still are dying, Republicans just shouted, "Stay the course," waved the
flag, and blamed Clinton! Democrats simply snivel and whine and hope
someone will magically appear and make everything better. But nobody says
anything about "impeachment"?
Every president must take an oath swearing upon the bible that he will
protect the constitution. President Bush took the oath and at once sponsored,
"The Patriot Act", which rips the "Bill of Rights" into shreds and now he claims
the right to open and read your mail without a warrant.
Many generations of Americans worked, sacrificed and died to build a
reputation for this country with the highest kinds of ideals ever achieved on earth.
The United States became the model that the rest of the world held up as
something to emulate.
We represented the highest concern for human rights and advocated the
same for everyone. And unlike others when we won a war we did not at once
ravage our defeated enemy but rather quickly rolled up our sleeves and helped to
rebuild our former foes. For this and other like things we were respected and
loved universally.
Then, under a dark and ugly cloud, we somehow acquired this
administration. Now, our administration thumbs it's nose at the Geneva
Conference, ignores international laws and today tortures people routinely after
denying them any legal rights whatever even the basic right of habeas corpus. As
a result we are now despised by most and some even consider us to be the
most dangerous country on earth.
Clinton's little sexual misadventure, and Nixon's loutish behavior pale next
to this administration's illegal, stupid, and morally misguided policies and yet
congress remains completely docile as if it were a toothless lap dog.
One can't help but wonder about our double, and at times like these, even
triple standards.
As the consequences of our blatantly flawed mid-east policy becomes
more apparent each passing day and the truth keeps exposing an incompetent
and corrupt administration, we seem confused, unable to determine a course of
action blindly stumbling behind a leadership that clearly is not only incapable of
developing any kind of a sound foreign policy but which continues to lie about the
real situation in Iraq..
Yet, we do nothing about impeachment but instead stand by and allow our
constitution to be weakened. We appoint a group of tired, wrinkled and worn out
old white men from past administrations and hope they might miraculously
provide a solution to this stupid, immoral and reckless adventure.
Yet, the answer is obvious to any high school civic student or to anyone
with a grain of common sense. We simply must get out of Iraq right now while it
is still possible. Soon, developments will make a graceful retreat virtually
impossible and we will be in a quagmire that makes Vietnam look like a cub
scout meeting..
Everyone agrees that if we were to leave Iraq now that country would
erupt into complete and total chaos and a bloody civil war. The implication, of
course, is that we have a real moral and political obligation to stay there.
However, one must consider what is going to happen if we do.
Staying puts us in the extremely difficult position of being an unwanted
third party intervening between a number of hostile adversaries. When we
removed, Saddam Hussein, we created a political vacuum. Historically, in this
kind of a situation, a power struggle takes place within the country between the
existing power bases to determine a new leadership.
Thwarting this process creates a state of total anarchy and complete
lawlessness; a condition already fast approaching. As the various entities attempt
to fill this vacuum they will naturally collide and when we step in attempting to
separate the parties we stifle this natural evolution.
However, human nature being what it is, in a very short period of time, the
opposing factions will join together and will determine that we are the real
problem and must be removed.
So, rather than a civil war, we shall find ourselves being attacked by
everyone in Iraq and many more American lives will be needlessly lost. Our
gross mistakes flowing, one after the other, day after day, certainly signals the
need for major changes in the management of our country. Time is running out
and soon there will be no options. The world is watching with a critical eye and
wondering whatever happened to this great country?
Anyone who can think at all, realized a long time ago, that invading Iraq in
the first place was, without a doubt, the dumbest, illegal and biggest immoral
mistake this country has ever made. Once this is finally acknowledged by our
mentally challenged and morally misguided administration, the solution to the
dilemma will become patently obvious!
Simply put; we must get out of Iraq quickly while we still can. It's a no-
brainer. One need not be a rocket scientist, or have an Ivy League education to
realize that staying will only needlessly spill more American blood and cost
billions upon billions more of our already wasted dollars. And for what?.
Leaving will allow Iraq to resolve it's own problem, which one way or the
other they are going to have to do for nobody can do it for them..
