Another war?

Another war? On May 22, 2007 President Bush directed the CIA to begin “covert” operations against Iran. At the same time Vice President Cheney stated that military intervention was still an option. In this case “covert operations” means to provide support for dissenters within Iran and to encourage dissent by whatever means possible. Also we are to disrupt, harass, sabotage and thwart Iran’s international financial affairs wherever possible. Why anyone could believe that another hostile action on our part against yet another sovereign nation in the Mid East would be worthwhile simply challenges the mind. Iraq was a country with very few friends. Iran, however, is quite another story. Among its supporters are China, Russia, and Syria and most of the other countries in the region. The White House apparently believes that somehow or the other it is our responsibility to prevent Iran from developing atomic capability. This attitude bought us the disaster in Iraq but a military conflict with Iran would make Iraq seem like a grade school soccer match. It is unfortunate that this administration cannot believe that it is not our role to inflict our thinking on the rest of the world and it would be far more productive if we concentrated on solving a few of our own overwhelming problems before attempting to solve the world’s.
