Miracle In 1776

While we all celebrated by stuffing ourselves with barbequed chicken, potato salad and corn on the cob just a few days ago one cannot help but wonder, just how many of us really appreciate the miracle that happened back in 1776. A printer, a banker, several farmers from Virginia and one or two merchants got together in a smoke filled room in Philadelphia, lifted their glasses of brandy and wrote our constitution as the framework for a new country to be born out of revolution. Little did they realize that they had created a new kind of government that became the only surviving revolutionary government in history for so many generations. When it first surfaced, people around the world were awe struck and inspired, and many then, and even several today, try to imitate parts of it. The fact that such a random group of diverse individuals could work together to create a new kind of government that would last for more than two hundred years was in itself a miracle. Little did they dream that they would be so successful and that this new country they had designed would become the most successful government in history. While we butter our ears of corn we should try to remember with deep gratitude the result of their inspired efforts. Our constitution is without a doubt actually a very sacred document. It is a colossal shame that our present administration treats this hallowed document as if it were something with which to wrap fish .. Hopefully, our coming election will replace this administration with one that will hold this document in the high esteem it deserves and protect it with their lives as so many thousands have done before. What happened in 1776 truly was a magnificent miracle. James Heth James Heth Email: James Heth To Read More Columns By James Heth: James Heth Archives
