The Right Thing

For many years and long before America became involved, the people of Iraq have been fighting each other to determine who will rule. It has been the Shiites vs. the Sunnis vs. the Kurds for many generations going back hundreds of years. Why we think that we can cause these warring tribes to embrace each other in a fair division of control over Iraq is a prime example of daydreaming at its zenith. We are told that if we were to leave Iraq now thousands would die in a bloodbath. The fact is that while we occupy Iraq the killing still goes on. Our leaving will do nothing to increase the killings. The next problem we have to face might well be that the tribes will unite in a common effort to throw us out, so they can fight it out among themselves to determine who shall eventually rule their country. Only the Iraq people can make this determination. The sooner we get out and allow the Iraqis to do this the better things will be. Over three thousand seven hundred and fifty young Americans have already died and many thousands more have been wounded. Getting out now will save American lives and a normal power struggle will continue and lead to the final solution for Iraq. Unfortunately our “Decider”, is incapable of ever deciding to do “the right thing”. James Heth James Heth Email: James Heth To Read More Columns By James Heth: James Heth Archives
