Rove’s Memories
By Guest Editorial Writer James Heth
|
Since the Bush administration will undoubtedly be remembered as if not the single most incompetent, but certainly one of the most incompetent administrations in history, it is unlikely that Carl Rove wants to be remembered as being its architect. Almost every policy he recommended has been a colossal failure with, perhaps the biggest disaster of all, the Iraq quagmire. That Rove will want to be considered the brain of this administration seems highly unlikely. He would prefer, I am sure, to sit on his front porch in Texas rocking in his chair, while puffing contently on a cigar, delightfully remembering how they defeated the then ailing Ann Richards in an election for governor. Ahh, now there was something of which he could be quite proud. Recalling the ill-fated term of Gonzales is not a memory he cherishes. And outing that CIA agent was not an instance he would care to dwell upon. Gutting the constitution was difficult because of an obnoxious and preying press but it, like salt, added a little bite to the stew. However, in the overall scheme of things he would much rather recall his high school “daze” when he astonished everyone with his amazing capacity for being completely inconspicuous.
