Fear

The Republican party relies upon fear as a means of gaining office and maintaining control of the White House. First it was Iraq we were supposed to be afraid of, supposedly with an assortment of weapons of mass destruction about to fall upon our heads unless we quickly started a war in order to destroy those awesome weapons. However, we quickly found out that after invading Iraq there were no such weapons. But still the leading neo-conservative Republican, Norman Podhoretz, quickly pointed out that Saddam Hussein needed to be unseated otherwise he would mount many more 9/11s. We later learned that Saddam Hussein had nothing what-so-ever to do with 9/11 and so we have suffered the loss of over 3,800 American lives so far for the defense of America from threats that did not exist.

Today this same Norman Podhoretz is now demanding that we bomb and invade Iran because Iran will soon have weapons of mass destruction and will attack us.  Vice President Cheney has taken up the idea and is urging Bush to quickly attack Iran.

Neither of these apparent nuts have considered the fact that an attack upon Iran would likely set off world war III with Russia firmly set on Iran’s side.  Russia has already warned Bush to leave Iran alone. Russia is quite capable of dropping an atomic bomb on every major American city.  Any attack upon Iran would bring down the wrath of the Tartars and between Russia and the U. S. the atomic destruction of the world would be the result.  Yet, in spite of this reality the neo-conservatives led by Podhoretz are still clamoring for an all out invasion of Iran.

It should be noted that the scientific world recently has firmly stated that it will be at least another eight years before Iran has any atomic capability if at all. Additionally an international atomic watchdog committee has stated that there is no indication that Iran is developing an atomic weapon.  But, this doesn’t deter Podhoretz for now he claims that Iran is also the center of something called “Islamofacisim” which, he claims has a plot to take over the entire world.  The problem is that there is no such thing as “Islamofacisim”. It is a word only existing in the strange mind of Norman Podhoretz., Dick (shoot ‘em in the face) Cheney and an odd assortment of mentally challenged right wing fanatics.

It is interesting to note that those most a adamantly urging another war, Cheney, Rumsfeld, Podhoretz and Bush each took extraordinary means to avoid serving in the military during the Viet Nam war.

Yet still, several Republican leaders are now busy trying to scare the American public into another war by spreading as much fear over these non-existing threats and claiming that they alone can stand as a tough barrier to these threats. It worked before, they think, so why not do it again?

Hopefully the American public is now wise to this underhanded tactic and will soundly defeat the Republicans at the polls.
