Republican Fence
By Guest Editorial Writer James Heth

Last year the fiscally conservative republicans defeated an immigration reform act and replaced it with," The Secure Fence Act”, which provides 1.2 billion dollars to start to build a fence 15’ high along 700 miles of our border with Mexico and the final total costs are estimated to fall between 6 and 12 billion dollars. Of course the border is actually 1,952 miles long, a minor detail escaping not only the congress but the White House as well. The Bush administration set a goal of 300 miles of barrier by the end of 2008. The 15’ fence will extend from Tecate California to Laredo Texas. In some areas it will be made of sheet metal, in others, mesh or solid concrete depending on the terrain.. Arizona Gov. Janet Napolitano, angry with the seizure of private property and ranch lands under imminent domain stated, “Show me a 50’ wall and I’ll show you a ladder 51’ long. The idea of a fence like this on its face is a perfect example of the fiscal stupidity and utter irresponsibility of the entire Republican organization and is one more reason to change the leadership of our government if it is not already too late.
