The Cost of Iraq

According to the Congressional Budget Office we have now spent over 1.2 trillion dollars in Iraq and are still spending 275 million a day. So far it has cost Americans $4,100 per household and the end is still nowhere in sight.

We have suffered almost 4,000 dead and more than 50,000 wounded. The Iraqis have lost over 700,000 dead and 4 million refuges.

The tragic element in this disaster as well as the irony is that it happened under a supposed conservative Republican administration.

However, to call this administration Republican requires a wild stretch of the imagination. The real Republican party was taken over by a coalition of military industrial  factions in concert with the so called Evangelical Christian right.. Real Republicans like, Robert Taft, Ike Eisenhower, Barry Goldwater, Ronald Regan and others are now all spinning in their graves.

The traditional Republican establishment would never have allowed this stupid excursion into Iraq and now the political damage is so great that The Grand Old Party may never recover from the disaster.
