Mountain Shadows

Wild Turkeys There are mostly lovely things within the mountains shadows. Unfortunately there is an occasional ugly looking thing wandering about in those shadows. Such is the experience I had the other day. I was resting at the edge of our property next to the wooded area when I heard a rather odd noise coming from the bushes just beyond our fence. Then to my amazement two strange ugly wobbling forms came out from under the bushes and wobbled under our fence and into our yard. Our dog after one look turned away and trotted around and went behind the house. The noises odd as they were became louder and finally I recognized the forms as being wild turkeys gobbling as they wobbled over the ground coming into our yard. Now some things are just not pleasant to look at and wild turkeys are in my opinion at the top of that list. They have ugly red wattles wrapped about their necks and are simply just plain ugly all over. One cannot imagine eating one of these birds but some consider wild turkey to be a delicacy. Considering the entire spectrum within the mountain shadows a few ugly things are bound to appear and in no way can detract from the overall beauty to be found there.
