Bumble Bees

Long before the Wright brothers even thought about flying, a big black and yellow bee was looking up at a group of California poppies and thought; if only I could fly. But I don’t have wings with an airfoil, so I guess I’ll just sit here and wish.  But, damn it I’m still going to try.

And so he took a deep breath and leaped off the top of the blade of grass and began flapping his straight flat wings at near supersonic speed and by some miracle still not understood by anyone the heavy bumble bee lifted upwards with a loud buzz and hovered above several of the golden poppies and then settled down on a big one and rolled about in the rich pollen before lifting up again to visit a number of other flowers.

The bee itself can still not explain how it can fly and still is not aware that because of its weight and without airfoils on its wings it really cannot fly.

            But, it does.
