Cats

Some cats are really crazy and really do very strange things occasionally.

We have two Manx cats.  Both are tom cats from the same litter six years ago. One, we call “Alexander the Great”, and he most definitely needs to be committed.  He is definitely certifiably plain out nuts.

If he should see you watching  he  instantly begins a series of somersaults concluding with a back flip.  He will continue these as long as he sees you watching.  Then he will amble over and jump up onto your lap.  Once there, he will begin to knead his forepaws into your chest before curling up and going to sleep   Then he simply purrs like an old electric motor. However, he always keeps one eye open looking for a mouse or anything else that might crawl by.

He and his brother, “Napoleon”, have eliminated all of the rodents within a  mile radius of our house. Our garden used to be a playground for gophers, but last year the two of them cleared out all of the gophers along with the  mice.

The other afternoon I was sitting on our deck reading the latest issue of Harper’s magazine when I felt something drape over my right foot. I looked down and Alexander the Great, was sitting next to my foot and draped over my shoe was a dead squirrel. I swear the cat was beaming and he rolled his eyes around and stared up at me with great pride.  A moment later there was a thump as Napoleon floated down off of the roof to land right next to his brother. Then the two of then began their summersault routine up and down the deck.

Like I said; some cats are crazy, but Manx cats are just a bit nuttier than their cousins and our two are definitely in need of a cat shrink if there is such a thing.
