Mountain Shadows

If you ever have an hour or so to spare and wish to experience something unique stroll into a wooded area in the mountains and find a quiet place to sit.

Settle down then and look around at the ground in front of you and don’t make a sound.  The first thing you will notice is that when the breeze blows the splotches of light on the ground seem to dance about a bit.  Then if you have remained very still and have not made a sound a brown and white chipmunk just might pop into view and fluff his tail at you one or two times before shifting the nut in his cheek around and start munching on it while you watch.

A few minutes later if you still haven’t moved a Rufous colored Towhee with a bright red eye just might perch on a twig overhead to announce that it is time for you to continue your stroll and once again you will be on your way.
These things happen all the time in the mountain shadows.
