Mountain Shadows

Summer Skies In some strange way summer skies are different than skies of the rest of the year and combined with mountain shadows they can at times be quite spectacular. When walking among a group of oak trees if one looks up, the oak leaves seem to dance and sparkle in the sunlight when a slight breeze turns their leaves. At other times huge puffy white clouds float about turning into scenes dictated by your own fantasies. Then there are days when the bright blue sky is as sharp and as clear as an Austrian crystal goblet. On these days even the grass seems to glisten. Summer skies at night can be resplendent with the glow of millions of stars strewn across the sky from horizon to horizon. Other times there is a buttermilk sky with a crescent moon occasionally peeking through a veil of clouds like one of the harem girls from Arabian Nights. Aside from the stunning beauty of summer skies there is something quite comforting about them; a kind of stillness that comes with peace and tranquility. One may lay in a hammock and not be at all concerned about what is behind them and the soft breeze that occasionally comes is never cold and harsh but is warm and gently caresses your face. Yes indeed, summer skies are really quite special.
