Mountain Shadows

The beautiful sights and sweeping vistas associated with Yosemite are well known and deeply appreciated by millions, but how many have taken the time and trouble to appreciate the incredible array of wild flowers that are indigenous to Yosemite?

For instance there are the Alpine gold blossoms at times growing right next to Baby Blue Eyes. There are the California Poppies nodding golden, sparkling in the sunshine and that sometimes like an exquisite carpet flow along a hillside. We have dazzling flowers called California Fuchsia, violet Canchalagua and let’s not forget the shimmering Fiddleneck.

And aren’t we all are stunned by the sight of the radiating beauty of a Red Bud in bloom?  Then too, it is virtually impossible to ignore our Mountain Lupine that at times sweeps over a field like a quiet purple ocean wave carrying with it the soft musk-like scent that is one of the harbingers of the coming summertime.

These wild flowers are every bit as beautiful as Bridal Falls or Half Dome or any of the other spectacular sights to be seen in Yosemite. Go there, look around and see the signs of spring and early summer.

You will be soundly rewarded.
