A casual stroll into a meadow in and around Mariposa this time of the year will reward you in several delightful ways. First, is the profusion of wild flowers that will please your eye and then too the sweet musky fragrance of flowering Lupine will surely provide your nose with a delightful treat. As many of us know Mariposa means butterfly and within these meadows where you may be strolling you might see fluttering about the brilliant orange poppies one of the multi colored butterflies that periodically visit Mariposa, particularly if you might stroll by a creek site. Butterflies like to cluster along the damp edges of our creeks. While you look about be sure to keep an eye open for a ruby throated humming bird. They too are here now flitting about from flower to flower like little feathered helicopters. They make a funny but pleasant little buzzing sound and at times if you are very lucky one might even hover by your ear just to provide you with truly a very unique treat. Yes indeed, any stroll into the mountain shadows this time of the year will always reward you with a number of nature’s pleasant surprises. These are a few of the things that make living in the mountain’s shadows worthwhile.
