PIECE MAKERS

Mariposa Piece Makers are an informal group of quilters who come together to share a common interest in the art of quilt making.  Their purpose is to promote and preserve traditional methods of quilting and to encourage experimenting with contemporary methods.

This small group of  23 dedicated quilters put on their first quilt show this weekend at the Mariposa History Center and Museum.  The quilts were displayed in the Museum and outside.  I have been to many quilt shows, and this was by far the most beautiful because of the setting.  The quilts ranged from traditional to contemporary.  Phyllis Butler's quilts featuring the backsides of four ladies was by far the most comical and creative.

The way the quilts were displayed in the Counts house made the setting perfect.   The quilts that were layed over the picket fence made you feel someone had just placed them there for spring cleaning.  The quilts dropped over the seats of the Cannonball looked like they were there to warm the driver and passengers.  The tiny miniatures and their minute details were mind-boggling to think anyone could make anything so small.

I hope the Piece Makers  will make this an annual event.

They invite you to join them the second Saturday of every month,
 9:30 am-12:30 pm,
in the downstairs room of the Parish Hall at St. Joseph's Church
