They bark like a dog, have huge feet, can weigh up to a 1000 pounds (a large percent is blubber), swim and dive
gracefully and have a hard time moving on land.
They are the California Sea Lion.
They have loving faces and eyes, sharp teeth, big flippers and tiny ears. The noise they make in a group can often be
heard for miles.
They love to lounge around on docks and other man made
floating objects. The Sea Lions feed on fish and squid near
the ocean surface. They can dive to 500 feet and stay underwater for 3 to 5 minutes. Males grow a large crest of bone
on the top of their heads as they reach sexual maturity. They are playful and smart and males can grow to 8 feet long.
They can be very aggressive and many have the scars to prove it.
They like to sleep in groups and can often be seen laying on each other.
