Fall weather is nearly here and from what I have read the fall color in
the Eastern Sierra will be early this year. This maybe because of
the drought last year. There are already some reports of trees turning in
early September.
Lundy Canyon is one of the most gorgeous hikes in the Eastern Sierra,
with lovely waterfalls included. Lundy Canyon Falls consists of four separate cascades in a very scenic canyon. The
waterfalls are best seen in the spring or early summer. But in October, the fall colors in Lundy Canyon can't be beat
if you are here when the aspens are changing, also the waterfalls on Lundy Canyon Creek might still be flowing nicely.
You can easily make a day trip from Mariposa over Tioga Pass. Or if you
want to take a longer trip, there are many beautiful canyons from Convict Lake to Bridgeport to explore.
Directions: From Lee Vining, drive north on Hwy 395
for 6.9 miles to the Lundy Lake turnoff. Drive west on Lundy Lake Rd. for 6.5 miles to the end of the road at the
signed trailhead for Lundy Canyon. The last 1.3 miles (from Lundy Lake resort) is a dirt road (ok for cars).
