Mariposa Farmer's Market - By Linda Gast
|
People cluster around the tables of vegetables, fruit, honey, nuts, kettle korn, bread
and pastries waiting for Dave Harris to ring the bell at exactly 5:00 PM to officially open the Wednesday night
Mariposa Farmers Market. They get there early and steadfastly hold their spots. These shoppers mean business and know that it is a first come first serve situation. The competition is fierce. The colorful fresh vegetables make a beautiful picture. The smell of the cinnamon kettle korn drifts over the whole market as the shoppers make their purchases. The lush red strawberries are in great demand. There are even a few tomatoes just turning red even though it is early in the season. The fresh baked bread and cookies were the first place my husband went. He loves cookies! I managed to get a sack of green beans and a bag of cinnamon kettle korn. It is all over at 6:30 PM when the growers strike their tents and put what little is left in their trucks. They
will return each Wednesday this summer. I will be back next week too. I will remember to get there early so I can get
a good place in line.
