Think ocean beaches, cool breeze and walking barefoot in the surf. The day I took these
photos I was at Seal Rock Beach in Oregon.
Sounds pretty good as we endure the hot weather here in Mariposa.
One of my favorite times on the beach is during a minus tide. A minus tide is just what
it sounds like. It is a tide that is below the normal low tide and it is below sea level. A tide of -2.4 is pretty rare.
It does not happen every month and it does not happen very often during the daylight hours. It gives you a chance to see
what is under the sea. Tide pools are very interesting, but I love seeing what is high up on the rocks that are normally
covered with sea water. It gives you a real thrill standing below sea level, watching the waves higher than your head.
You never know what you will find. Starburst Anemones
are alien looking creatures when they are closed, but when they open their tentacles they are beautiful . Sea Stars come
in colors of purple, orange and fuchsia. They attach themselves to the rocks and can move their legs around into many
positions. There are many tiny creatures and you definitely have to be careful where you walk.
