On Saturday May 12, 2007, residents of El Portal, train buffs, Mariposa County residents, tourists and countless other interested parties celebrated in El Portal the 100 year anniversary of the first train to arrive in El Portal.

There was a historic group photo on the train taken by the Yosemite National Park photographer, a time capsule was put together, music was played, a dunking booth was set up, vendors had their wares for sale, food was offered, sack races were held and even a raffle was available.
The raffle ended up
making $472 for the El Portal Community Association.

The esteemed El Portal Train Historian, Jack Burgess was giving fantastic walking tours of the area while holding up old photos of what El Portal looked like in the old days.
