Butterfly Hat Contest Get those creative juices flowing! A new event for Mariposa's 2008 Butterfly Festival is a Butterfly Hat Contest! Margaret Hartley, a local resident, found a fabulous hat, artistically adorned with feather butterflies, in a fashion magazine. She sent the photo to the committee and suggested that we create a contest for butterfly hats. The Festival committee thought it would be great fun to make it a part of the public reception to welcome the Shriners on Friday night. So, run to the craft store and get out your glue guns, find an old hat and get creative, even extravagant. We know you can do it and have a great time making it. The contest will have both men's and women's divisions. The Vault and Fremont House will provide prizes for the contest. It should be a lot of fun. Plan to come to the reception on Friday, May 2nd from 5 to 7 PM and be a part of the festivities! For more information Call (209)742-5522 or Email butterflyfestival@sti.net. The Butterfly Festival Committee is busily preparing for the upcoming 2008 Festival. This year the Festival will be expanding to a three day event that will take place Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, May 2nd, 3rd, and 4th. We have many exciting events planned. We would like to invite Residents and organizations of Mariposa to take part. The Butterfly Festival is sponsored by the Historic Mariposa County Business Association. Our organization has built the Festival from a one day event, on 7th Street to a three day event throughout the town of Mariposa. Needless to say our manpower is stretched. As individuals there are many ways to help. Some ways to participate are raising butterfly eggs, addressing envelopes, making phone calls and adding manpower on the days of the event. Clubs and organizations are invited to submit proposals for events to the Festival Committee. These events may include fundraisers and/or add entertainment events to the festival. As an example, last year the Piecemakers, our local quilting group tagged on to the festival and had a very successful quilt show. That was a wonderful addition to the festival. We would like to encourage more such joint adventures. Our goal is to make this 2008 Butterfly Festival, not only the the biggest and best, but to enlist the community to help build the Festival for the future! The organizers of the Butterfly Festival will be glad to meet with you to fill you in on what needs to be done. For further information call 742-5522 or Email to butterflyfestival@sti.net As time is of the essence, please respond as soon as possible so we can add you to our event.

The Butterfly Festival is rapidly approaching. The butterflies arrive today and we begin separating the eggs tonight and continue tomorrow. We will raise at least two thousand butterflies. I am so pleased to have our community take ownership in helping. We have school children raising butterflies in their classrooms. Senior citizens are raising them in their homes, some of the county government offices are raising them and many businesses are also taking a part in raising the butterflies. The expense this year of course is greater than last year because we have extended the Festival to a three day event and ordered twice as many butterflies. Last year our biggest fund raiser was our raffle. We raised over $2,000 from last years raffle, which was our start up monies for this year's festival. We are hoping to do the at least same this year. Please, consider making a donation for the raffle. Each business that donates will receive recognition for their donation in several ways. There will be posters, newspaper releases, and of course recognition at the drawings themselves. You will receive a receipt for your donation. Your donation can be anything from your business, a gift certificate, or something that you have purchased especially for the Butterfly Festival. If you prefer to make a financial donation we will be glad to accept that. The funds raised will be used for expenses incurred only for the Butterfly Festival. Raffle gifts may be dropped off at Odella's Antiques on lower 5th Street below Pizza Factory or you can mail to P.O. Box 1036, Mariposa, California 95338. For further information call (209)742-5522 or Email butterflyfestival@sti.net.
