California Fish & Game Stocks The Merced River With Trophy Rainbow Trout

Before a big day of stocking fish, one must have a proper breakfast, The Miners Inn
Restaurant in Mariposa serves such a breakfast that will carry you over for hours and hours. Mr. Loudermilk said that the Rainbow Trout that are going to be stocked for the next few Thursday's in
different locations on the Merced River will stay local as most of them are territorial and will not simply swim down the
Merced River to Lake McClure. |

Members of the Merced Flyfishing Club volunteered their time for the next few weeks to help Fish & Game
stock the fish in the Merced River. Their website: Merced Flyfishing Club In the photo to the left members grab a net that is loaded with flip-flopping fish. After a trial program last year on the Kings River and having a very enthusiastic response to the stocking of these Rainbow Trout along with some trophy sized trout, the Department of Fish & Game with the help of Leroy Radanovich, (former - Interim Mariposa Tourist Bureau Coordinator) came up with a program to stock the Merced River this year. Overall 26,000 fish will be stocked into the river with approximately 22,000 in the 1-3 pound range and 4,000 Trophy Rainbow Trout in the 6-10 pound range ! |
