Clampers Build A Monument In Mariposa

E Clampus Vitus Matuca Chapter 1849 members are shown constructing a monument at the Mariposa Museum and History Center.

The monument will be dedicated by the Clampers on April 7th at
9 A.M. to commemorate the 50th Anniversary of the first meeting of the Mariposa County Historical Society, which was held on April 14, 1957.

This will be the 26th plaque to commemorate an historical site or event dedicated by the Clampers in Mariposa County. The public is invited to attend the dedication.

Saturday Morning, 9 am, at the Mariposa Museum and History Center, the local E Clampus Vitus chapter will unveil and dedicate a substantial stone monument commemorating the historical significance of the stamp mill, the Counts House and the old Mariposa Gazette Building located on the museum grounds.

The Clampers have really outdone themselves on this one, using chunks of white quartz from the original Mariposa Mine and incorporating pieces of mining equipment, a few bricks from historic structures, and lead printing type from the old Gazette print shop.

Featured prominently on the lower left side of the memorial, is a lifting cam that was used on an ore crushing mill. The public is invited to attend the ceremony and to visit the new exhibits inside the museum building without charge.
