Bird Sampling Demonstration In El Portal
Saturday, September 15, 10:00 am – Noon

Incline Road, El Portal

The Upper Merced River Watershed Council invites you to spend a morning along the Merced River with Julian Wood of the Point Reyes Bird Observatory. Come and learn the sampling method used for the Merced River Alliance fall bird surveys. You’ll take part in a practice search and have plenty of time to ask questions. There is no charge for this enjoyable outing with an expert birder.

In 2006, Stillwater Sciences conducted a preliminary biological survey of the Merced River as part of the Merced River Alliance. The objective of the survey is to provide a river-long, up-to-date set of baseline data on birds, fish and macro invertebrates. The bird sampling portion was performed by the Point Reyes Bird Observatory. Further surveys will be conducted through spring of 2008. The Merced River Alliance is a joint project of the East Merced Resource Conservation District and the Upper Merced River Watershed Council. The Alliance Project is funded by a grant from the CALFED Watershed Program and is administered by the State Water Resources Control Board.
