Mariposa Airport Open House and Fly-In is Oct 6, 2007

This year marks the 70th anniversary of the Mariposa County Airport.  The airport was dedicated on October 3, 1937 with much fanfare.  This year the annual open house and fly-in will occur on Saturday, October 6.  The event is free.

There is parking at the airport but a better bet is the shuttle bus that will run continuously from County Bank to the airport and back. Doors open at 7 am for a Firehouse Breakfast, served until 11 am.  Lunch will be served from 11 am to 2 pm.  The local Experimental Aircraft Association will offer Max's tri-tip lunch and the Civil Air Patrol cadets, from Merced, will offer hotdogs and soft drinks.

Airplane rides and items donated by local merchants will be raffled.  Kids, 8-17 years, can also sign up for airplane rides with local pilots.  Inky's Basement Band will play at noon followed by other local musicians.

All day, a good collection of local and visiting airplanes will be on display.   Some will modern, some will be classics and some will be antiques.  Although most will have been factory made, many will be homebuilt.  About half a dozen local residents have built their own planes.  Two planes are currently under construction at the airport.  Many antique and show cars will also be displayed
