The agenda for the September 25, 2007 meeting was fairly light as the meeting was over before 11:00 AM. In the photo on the left is Mariposa County Fire Chief Jim Wilson presenting a plaque and Letter of Recognition to Ann & Richard Sheldon for being the "2007 Blue Ribbon Winner Labor Day Parade Award" recipients for the restoration of an antique fire hose cart that was dedicated in memory of Walter Palmer, who was the First Chief of Catheys Valley Fire Company 23. (A photo at the bottom of the page is from the 2007 parade) Volunteers organizing a "Habitat for Humanity" affiliate for Mariposa County were in the chamber as Supervisor Janet Bibby proclaimed the week of October 6-13, 2007 "Habitat for Humanity Awareness Week" (In the below side photo are the organizers getting a congratulations for their efforts from Supervisor Bibby) A public hearing was held to discuss the intention of buying the property adjacent to the Mariposa County Jail for $350,000 that Sheriff Jim Allen had talked about a few weeks earlier. CAO Rick Benson commented that no written complaints had come in about the purchase. Technical Services Director Rick Peresan, presented an emergency to the board for permission to purchase a new air-conditioner for the Data Center as the old unit gave out over the weekend and the computer components have to be kept cool or data could be lost. $7,500 was allocated to replace the unit, but Mr. Peresan said only about $4,000 was needed to replace the one unit, but he would also like to replace the other unit in the summer months. The units in question are 2 two ton air conditioners that are very old. A few people in the audience questioned why not buy one big unit as it would be cheaper. Some members of the Board of Supervisors also questioned Rick about that, and he said he will look into it. The funding for this has already been set aside in a special fund for these kind of problems, so no additional money has to come out of the General Fund. The Board went into closed session as they discussed purchasing property in Midpines next to the County Park, that could be used for various things such as for a new fire station location, a bigger park area and a place for YART's to pick riders up and drop off. Also in the same closed session meeting they looked at the appointment of the new Human Services Director. Coming out of closed session as a few members of the public waited around to see what the results were, no announcement was made either on the land purchase or the appointment of the director. Supervisor Brad Aborn announced he will be riding the rails to Sacramento this week for a high speed rail meeting. Also Supervisor Dianne Fritz will be attending a high speed rail meeting in Oakland this week |
