Mariposa County Unemployment Report For August 2007
 

 

The Mariposa County Unemployment rate for August 2007 stood at 4.8 %. A Drop of .3% from the July report and .5% higher than August 2006.

The State of California unemployment rate for August was 5.4% a Drop of .1% from the July report and .5% higher than August 2006.

The United States unemployment rate for August was 4.6% a Drop of a .3% from July and the same rate as August 2006.

The above numbers are not adjusted for seasonality.

9,690 people were employed during August in Mariposa County an Decrease of  .9% from July and Increase of 1.3% %  than August of 2006.  490 individuals were out looking for work. That compares to 520 residents who were looking for work in July and 430 in August 2006.

120 more residents were employed this August than August 2006.

Of the 9,690 workers, 2,220 work for the government, 2,440 work in the leisure and hospitality industry and 10 individuals work on farms.

In August 2007, 2,440 people worked in the leisure and hospitality industry compared to 2,380 in August 2006 an Increase of 40 workers or about 1.7%.
August 2007 saw an Decrease of 20 jobs in that field from July 2007 an decrease of .8%.

A look at the yearly average for 2005 shows 8,300 people were employed while 600 people were unemployed giving a unemployment rate of 6.4% for the year.
In roughly a year and a half, Mariposa County has added around 1,400 jobs with less people out looking for work an increase of about 17%!
