Mariposa County Sheriff Jim Allen took the Board by surprise as he submitted his letter of retirement, effective December 31, 2007.
After serving the county for over 30 years along with the PERS retirement system that will now impose penalties if he keeps on working,  Mr. Allen decided to retire. His last request to the Board was to have Undersheriff Brian Muller appointed as the sheriff until the next election. In the audience was Jim Allen's wife and mother to support him in this decision.
Mr. Allen was given a round of applause by the Board and the members of the audience.

Supervisor Dianne Fritz was re-appointed to the California State Association of Counties (CSAC) as a Director and the alternates selected were any of the other Supervisors if they are needed.

Giving an update on the Ferguson Slide, Supervisor Janet Bibby said that three of the alternative plans have been discarded by CalTrans and that four plans are still in the running including the no build option. The $35 Million alternative "S"  (The two viaducts) is still on the table along with T-1 and C.
