Mountain Skies

The skies within the mountain shadows are always more dramatic than they are in the flatlands.

This time of the year the sunsets are more stunning than usual. It is not unusual to see in the west right along the horizon a thin strip of orange outlining the tops of the foothills and right above this a ribbon of azure blue with streaks of golden clouds scattered about. Sometimes storm clouds billow just above the horizon with edges of pink and crimson alternating with golden halos.

Only in the tropics are the skies as dramatic as they are in the mountain shadows.
