Mountain Shadows

Senses A simple stroll within the mountain shadows will demonstrate to you just how weak our senses are when compared to the critters within those shadows. First of all you might notice that on the top branch of the tallest tree a blue jay sits busy announcing your arrival to all the creatures within a half a mile with loud echoing caws... From that moment on you will hear and see nothing for the critters do not know why you are there and they are taking no chances and so they remain hidden. The senses of the creatures of the woods have developed well beyond our comprehension. It is said by the Indians that if a needle should fall from the sky an eagle will watch it fall and that a deer will hear it land but a bear will have smelled it long before it touches the earth.
