"Mariposa Piece Makers Creating a Community Fabric, One Stitch at Time"
is the motto of the quilt guild in Mariposa. This Saturday May 3, 2008 the group joined in the Community Butterfly
Celebration by displaying 155 quilts at the Mariposa History Center and Museum. This follows their successful show in
2007 at the Center.
One of the goals of the group is to specifically benefit the local
community through quilt making. They have donated 30 plus quilts to the Fosters Parents Association, 15 quilts to
Mountain Crisis Women's Shelter and 25 quilts at Christmas to Children's Protective Services.
They had perfect weather for the show this year. The quilts were hung on
the porch, draped over the railing and displayed in the old houses on the grounds of the Center. Some of the quilts
were artistically spread on the seats of an old stage coach. New events this year were "Bed Turning" of antique
quilts and Raffling of a wall hanging that were the results of the members being challenged to all make a quilt out of
the same fabrics.
