This has been a very different summer for the birds on our property.  In July the Telegraph Fire burned 25 of our 40 acres. Upon coming back to our house after the evacuation most of the birds were gone.  The hummingbird feeders were empty, the seed feeders were picked clean and the bird baths were dry.

During the following weeks the Finches, Stellar's Jays, Woodpeckers, Grosbeaks Quail and some of the other birds returned. A couple of the hummingbirds came back, but most had moved on.

Taking photos of birds has become my favorite hobby. Seeing them return has lifted my spirits. The Red Tail Hawks have been busy in the burn area hunting small rodents. One of the first animals to come back were the gophers. They had already started digging out almost before the ground was cool. We have also seen many bear and deer passing through out property.
I am looking forward to next spring to see what kind of wildflowers will come up and to see all the birds return.
