Bill Coate, History Teacher and TV Personality
Bill Coate's book "Twist in Time" |
About eighty museum members and friends enjoyed a delicious lunch and a special presentation by history
teacher and TV personality Bill Coate, on Sunday Oct 18 at the Mariposa Museum and History Center.
Coate, dressed in his classic style tux, spoke on some of the little known and ironic facts about Major John
Savage who is credited with being the first non-native to enter Yosemite Valley while pursuing a tribal
raiding party.
He also shared some of the history-teaching techniques and "stories with a twist" that have gained him
national awards of excellence. Several attendees lined up to buy copies of his "Twist in Time" books, which
contain many of the stories that he has been presented on Fresno's KMPH TV station.
The luncheon was also the museum's annual membership meeting where some brief bits of business were conducted
and the new board members and officers were presented. Glennis Tribe who has held the position of board
president for the past two years, passed the gavel to her successor, Ron Loya. Tribe also received a special
plaque representing the Judge Thomas Coakley Award for outstanding service to the museum.
