Retired Mariposa County Sheriff Jim Allen Receives Recognition at the
Board of Supervisors meeting from Supervisor Janet Bibby.

At the first Mariposa County Board of Supervisors meeting for 2008 Supervisor Lyle Turpin was nominated to be Chairman, while Supervisor Dianne Fritz will be Vice-Chair.

Retired Mariposa County Sheriff Jim Allen, was given a tile plaque and a resolution ( That listed many, many accomplishments) for over 30 years of service to the community. Jim Allen thanked his staff and the community. His parting words to the gathered public was from the movie the 'Terminator' "I'll be back".

Under public discussion, Coyote Springs and an article was mentioned that according to Lyle Turpin was NOT correct on the way the discussion between Ken Baker, Theresa Castaldi, County Counsel and himself was portrayed. A resident of Mariposa County wanted to know what is going on behind "closed doors" and then commented that what took place "Stinks!"
Supervisor Janet Bibby apologized for not attending the meeting but that she knew of no meeting until reading it. Supervisor Brad Aborn said he was very disappointed in the reporting and that is was biased at least! Resident Kathy Pierce said that Janet Bibby is the supervisor for that district and that boundaries were over-stepped. Another Mariposa County resident said that he lives near Coyote Springs and that since they put the trees in near the 140 he has had two wells go dry. By by-passing the supervisor of the district it was compared to judge shopping where you shop around until you find someone sympathetic to your problem. County Counsel said that he was just at the meeting in case any technical issues came up and that a meeting like what took place is legal and that no decisions can be made or any kind of deals made. Supervisor Brad Aborn said that the attacks on Planning Director Kris Schenk are uncalled for and that we need to protect what we have as far as Ag-Tourism goes. Also he mentioned that the Williamson Act is a very sensitive issue in Mariposa County. It was mentioned that Coyote Springs has dropped their third appeal and that at the meeting they again were told that six cabins have been approved and that any cabins more than that would require a conditional use permit. When offered to have the Planning Director at the meeting Theresa Castaldi and Ken Baker declined the offer.

Under Ferguson Rockslide Discussion a letter from the park service was discussed that included points about having the temporary bridges extended and that the supports for the new bridge should be at the high-water line and not in the water. Supervisor Lyle Turpin commented that he would like to see some sort of documentation that the money is appropriated for the new bridge. Supervisor Bob Pickard said that he would like to see  some clarification on who has authority on the bridge.

County Clerk Keith Williams, was back before the board for a public discussion on the fees being raised at his office (These fees were noted in a previous Board of Supervisors Highlights report). He mentioned that he has received no comments from the public on the raising of these fees that are for marriage licenses, DBA's and other various duties that his office handles.
