On a cool fall day
Coulterville held it's first annual Soap Box Derby on Saturday October 18, 2008 as residents and curious tourists stopped to
watch the 'Karts' speed down Broadway Street. Nine carts were entered in the first annual race. Different design strategies were employed by the teams, from the 1st place winner with two bicycle frames welded together that Joe Thomas zoomed down the course to win the trophy to a traditional looking kart that Jacob Baca steered to a second place win. All participants and spectators were enthused that this will become an annual growing event in Coulterville. Kudos to Bernie Laursen for taking the time to coordinate this event for the youth of Coulterville. For more photos and the local website: SOAP BOX DERBY The photos below are of the last two heats. The green machine driven by Andrew Stover cruised to an easy win while the second and first place race was very close. |
