A special thanks goes out to all the 'Kickers' who participated in the
Annual Kick-A-Thon held at the Mariposa Martial Arts Academy. The 'Kickers' raised over $4,600, this money was used to
give over 100 local families a Thanksgiving Basket. The basket contained all the trimmings for a nice Thanksgiving dinner,
including a whole turkey. The day started out cloudy and rainy but the spirits of community volunteers, including the Heartland workers, were full of sunshine and merriment. All of the groceries had to be carried inside the Academy and stacked on the tables. The groceries where then organized on the tables in such a way that when the families arrived they were able to fill the provided bags with only the item they wanted for their holiday meal. With a lot of volunteers the work was soon done. Then at around three in the afternoon the families started arriving at the Academy to collect their goodies. By the time daylight started to fade over 100 families had been served. Some of the food donations this year were provided by Pioneer Market, Merced Food 4 Less and the Merced Food Bank. The Kick-A-Thon is a yearly event put on by the Mariposa Martial Arts Academy to raise money for the Thanksgiving baskets. This year there was a total of 31,733 kicks in all. Thanks again to everyone, 'Kickers' and Donators alike, who participated in this worthy cause.
