Senior Center Activities
The Mariposa High School Associated Student Body will be hosting a Prom for the Senior Citizens here at the Center on Friday, April 18 from 11 till 1:00. Their theme this year is “The Best is Yet to Come” with the colors being black, white and red. This is the ninth year they have hosted a Prom for the senior citizens. Please join us for lunch and enjoy the students who work very hard to make this a special day for our seniors. The seniors would like to let the youth Rotarian Interact Club know how much they appreciated them for serving the senior lunch at noon on March 11. May is Senior Awareness month with this year’s theme, ”Working Together for Strong, Healthy and Supportive Communities.” The Community Service Office, Commission on Aging, and John C. Fremont Hospital will host a Senior Exposition and Health Fair on May 2, in the Sequoia Hall at the Fairgrounds from 9:00am till 1:00pm. Over thirty providers of services will be there to provide a forum where seniors, family members, caregivers and other community residents have an opportunity to gather information regarding services and programs that will enable seniors to live independent and safe in their homes longer. Information will be available on health care issues, food commodities programs, emergency services, respite, Veterans’ benefits, in-home care, transit/medical transportation, Linkages, MSSP, legal assistance, burial plans, Mariposa Pines Villa Board and Care, Fremont Skilled Nursing, HICAP, Ombudsman, healthier eating, vital signs, blood pressure check, local organizations, low income home energy assistance programs, job opportunities, SCOPE with reflecting residence signs and the QuickFind-Lifesaver programs, Sheriff’s, Fire department and local government officials. A Roast Beef Luncheon will be served at 12:00 noon with the senior (60 years of age or older) suggested donation of $5.00 and non-senior fee of $10.00, with drawings and giveaways. Organizers thank the Mariposa Lions Club for assisting the Nutrition Cooks, the VFW for a donation to offset the lunch cost, Xi Phi Upsilon Sorority for set-up, serving and cleaning the dinning area. The Board of Supervisors will be in on a Tuesday to serve lunch to the many senior volunteers throughout Mariposa County. If you have seniors volunteering in your programs, please let the Senior Office know if they would like to have a special table and be recognized for their contribution. Watch for future news articles for a Tuesday in May. Richard Renfro, Merced College Instructor, will conduct a Mature Driving Class beginning at 8:00am on May 16. This is a great refresher class and a way of staying up with changes in driving laws. The FFA Students will cook the hamburgers and serve lunch on May 16 at 12:00 noon. This is the Annual Old Time Family, Ranchers, Native Americans, Cowgirls and Cowboys Day with pictures and stories shared from the past and present. |
