Friends, family and the Mariposa community are all invited to spend a day of music and celebration Saturday June 14th from Noon to 9pm at the Mariposa “Cousin Jack” Arts Park in downtown Mariposa. Since Cousin Jack’s passing in 2003 the Cousin Jack Music Foundation has sponsored this free event as a memorial to Mariposa’s Honorary Mayor and Ambassador of Good Will, Cousin Jack Franklin. All who attend will be treated to a free BBQ lunch and music by Hwy 49, Cousin Jack’s Kids, Good Medicine, Jimmy Collier, Brent Schroeder, 50 Caliber and other fine musicians. As in past years there will be free raffle tickets (must attend to receive free tickets) for kids under 14 with an opportunity to win a new Guitar. There will also be a raffle for the adults, with ticket purchasers having a chance to win various exciting gifts.

This year, the Cousin Jack Music Foundation will present a $1,000 Music Scholarship to a Mariposa High School student during the event, made possible from generous donations received during last year’s Birthday party.

The Cousin Jack Music Foundation was founded in 2003, by the Franklin Family as a memorial to “Cousin Jack” Franklin who dedicated many years of his life to promoting music and the arts to the youth of Mariposa.

The primary goal of the Cousin Jack Music Foundation is to continue the work of Cousin Jack by “Promoting passion for Music and the Arts in Youth,” the Foundation’s mission statement.

Each year since 2004 the Foundation has awarded a five–hundred dollar music scholarship to a Mariposa High School Senior. This has been made possible by contributions from the Franklin Family and generous donations by the community. Because of the success of the Foundation’s fundraising, the scholarship was raised to one-thousand dollars for this year’s graduating class, the Class of 2008.
