Ski Conditions and Weather: The sun has finally reappeared here at the meadows after nearly 2 weeks of constant stormy weather. We experienced white-out blizzard conditions most days last week, with heavy snow and high winds as a series of storms pummeled the area. Since the first of the year we have received nearly 11 feet of snow here at Tuolumne, nearly 6 feet in the past two weeks alone. The past two days have been warm and sunny, which will finally give the snow a chance to settle and hopefully make the travelling much easier. The afternoon high temperature finally climbed above freezing yesterday, our first day with a high above 32 degrees in over a week. The weather forecast is for the warm and sunny weather to continue for the next week, which will allow the area to thaw out a bit.

Avalanche and Snowpack Conditions: For the latest avalanche advisory for this area go to www.esavalanche.org for the Eastern Sierra Avalanche Center and click on advisory. The ESAC site is updated several times a week and more often during weather events.

Wildlife: Most of the wildlife has been rather inconspicuous during the past week due to the weather. We have seen the tracks of pine martens, weasels, squirrels, mice, and hares as well as birds such as Mountain Chickadees, Brown Creepers, and Clark’s Nutcrackers.

Questions: If you have any ski related or weather questions feel free to call 209-372-0450 between 8:00 am and 8:00 pm. If we are out skiing, leave a message and a phone number so we can return your call. Please don’t call us with questions about road conditions, as we live 20 miles from the nearest plowed road and don’t do any driving this time of year. For current park road conditions call 209-372-0200. (Jeff and Kathi, the Tuolumne winter rangers - 2/8/08)
