Mariposa County Wildflowers 2009 - By Linda Gast

Scroll down for the slide show!

The wild flowers are blooming at the lower elevations of the Mariposa County Foothills.

The Lupines are covering the hills and steep cuts along the
roads. There are places along Hornitos Road where the fields are completely covered with Wild Hyacinth. Slate Gulch Road has a beautiful spot just above Dance Fire Ranch.

You can drive by in your car and enjoy the splendor, but I have found you
see so much more when you park the car and walk.
Most of these roads have very little traffic, but do be careful on Highway 140.
Be sure and respect the property rights of the ranches. It is not
advised to crawl over barb wire fences.
