Sierra Vista Scenic Byway
The Sierra Vista Scenic Byway is not for the
faint of heart. Parts of the road are unpaved and are in poor
condition. A four wheel drive vehicle is not a necessity, but it
does help. It is closed in winter and would be a difficult drive in
wet weather. There only two places that have any sort of facility
for the traveler. The bathrooms are few and far between and are
shown on the map. All that being said it is definitely worth the 100
mile 5 hour drive to see the massive granite domes and majestic
peaks. It would take many trips along the byway to explore all the
trails and meadows. We started our trip at Bass Lake and made the
loop through North Fork and then back to Oakhurst.
