Tenaya Lake Cool Getaway By Linda Gast

When the temperature is hitting the 100 degree mark in Mariposa the cool 72 degree breeze at Yosemite National Parks Tenaya  Lake is hard to resist.  The beaches and picnic areas may be crowded, but there was no one on the lake.

This makes kayaking a relaxing adventure that affords great views of the towering granite mountains surrounding the lake. The sparkling water allows a  clear look of the rocks at the bottom of the lake. I often see people fishing, but have yet to see any sign of fish. A few hardy souls were even swimming in the cold water. On the far side of the lake in the shallows are some rock stackings.  The giant clouds building up during the day made for some great picture taking. We were cautious enough to get off the lake before there was any sign of lighting.
