This is part one of a series of reasons to do your Christmas Shopping in Mariposa.

My idea when I first started was to take one photo in each store, but that soon turned out to be too little. Now you must remember the stores in Mariposa carry many things and I am only touching on those things that I really like and that I would buy for people I know or maybe for myself.  I have to admit I did buy a few items and I am planning on showing this article to my friends and family to give them an idea what I would like.

My first stop to get up my stamina for shopping was at Happy Burger for one of their famous breakfasts. I met a nice couple from Arizona and took their photo.

I normally don't think of True Value Hardware as a place to buy Christmas things, but you would be surprised.  I found a great squirrel proof bird feeder and a good supply of wildbird foods.  The next thing I spotted was this real neat breakfast cooking set. I always hate dragging out electric appliances that are stuck up on the highest shelf.  This set looked really handy. The helpful clerk did point out a Chia Pet, but I have to admit they are just not one of my favorite things.

The next stop on my shopping trip was Rite Aid. What did we do before Rite Aid came to town? I know we miss the personal service that our two drugs stores gave us for years, but that one stop shopping that Rite Aid offers has really saved me many trips to Merced. And you really can't beat that French Vanilla Thrifty Ice Cream for your holiday dinners and parties. If you can't wait till Christmas you can always get a ice cream cone on your way out.  I don't think you can go wrong in putting Russell Stover Chocolates on your list.  They have a good selection of Christmas Cards and call me a lazy wrapper, but I do love those big shopping bags with tissue paper. I couldn't pass up a handy steamer. I do hate to iron. I am not sure if I know where my iron is.

You must not forget your pets at Christmas time. I picked up a 50 pound bag of sunflower seeds at the Mariposa Feed Store. They have a great selection of toys for cats and dogs.  My animals all sleep in the house at night, but if your dog is an outside dog they have the cutest little wood dog house I have ever seen.

The Market Place in Historic Downtown Mariposa has two floors of everything imaginable for decorating and gifts. The little porcelain tea set and a cute little sugar bowl with a scoop took my eye. I loved the tree decorated with nothing but Swarovski Crystal Hair Jewelry.  There were lots of good things to eat including homemade jam. A beautiful necklace and a turquoise vase also caught my eye. Really just two many things to cover and I didn't even get upstairs. You will just have to go and check it out yourself.

Fremont House has great shirts and warm clothing for our Mountain climate, but I was really drawn to the UGG Boots. My husband would probably say I have a boot fetish, but my motto is you can never have too many boots. Those new knit top UGG's are definitely on my Christmas list. The warm rugged selection of houseshoes are made for going out in the ice and snow to get some wood for the fire. While you are there you might want to pick up a walking stick for that hiker on your list.

For that Mountain man in your life Coast Hardware has a large section of Swiss Army knives. They donated all their Christmas toys to Toys for Tots so they mostly had sports equipment in that section.

If you have a horse or western person on your list The Company Store is a great place to shop. The selection of animal Christmas Cards by the box are just beautiful. There are a number of Indian and horse statuary pieces. They  also have a large selection of beautiful rings and there is one bear pendant that is a must for my list.

That did it for me today, but I will be right back out there tomorrow, shopping until I drop.  It is a dirty job, but somebody has to do it!
