COULTERVILLE ROCKED!

SHINDIG WAS HOT! HOT! HOT!

Actually, Saturday, Aug 1st turned out to be just a nice, hot summer day with temperatures staying below the three digit mark and refreshing breezes all day.  But the HOT cars, HOT Bikes and HOT sultry music heated up the action at Coulterville Park.

Several thousand dollars was successfully raised for the Coulterville Stage Project building fund.  A great variety of cars and bikes vied for the various Show Your Chrome contest awards.  The winner of the first annual CAMBR (Coulterville America’s Most Beautiful Roadster) Award was a ’67 Chevy Chevelle owned by Kenny McCarty of Groveland.  It was a 427ci 500 plus HP, 4 wheel disc earth-shaker and it was HOT!

In the ’49 and Older class, 1st place was a ’27 Ford Touring Convertible owned by Tony Atkission from Fresno.  2nd place was a ’39 Pontiac Deluxe owned by Vincent Barr from Twain Harte..  In 3rd place was a ’34 Ford Tudor owned by Ernest Hoff from Oakdale.

For the ’50 to ’80 class, 1st place was a ’66 Chevy Corvette owned by the Diesels from Sonora.  2nd place was a ’65 Chevy Pickup owned by Mike Branson from Hollister.  3rd place was a ’67 Ford Mustang owned by John Zurilgen from Mariposa.

For the ’81 and newer class, 1st place went to an ’07 Nissan 350z owned by James Lister from Don Pedro.  2nd place was an ’87 VW Bus owned by Mike Brenner from Mariposa.

People’s Choice car winners included the Nifty Fifty Award for a ’56 Chevy Belair 510 owned by Steve Dunlap from Sonora.  The Favorite Ford Award went to Tony Atkission’s ’27 Ford Touring Convertible.

In the People’s Choice bike classes, the Best Cruiser Award went to a ’00 Indian Silver Cloud owned by Les Simmerman of Manteca.  The Best Sport bike Award went to an ’05 Honda VTX 1300 owned by Allen Armstrong.  A ’99 SPCN Pan/Shovel owned by Jacob Forsmenn from Ceres won the Best Bagger award.

Disappearing Pies!

Two other proud winners of the day were Cassy Marler of Greeley Hill and Brandon Schimmelfennig of Ceres.  Both got seriously gooey by burying their faces in some yummy looking cream pies and slurping really, really fast.  Cassy won the children’s pie-eating contest and Brandon won the adult contest, with Brandon virtually consuming an entire 2 lb. pie in 60 seconds flat!

There were a whole host of other happy winners, with dozens of terrific prizes in the various raffles.  This included one lucky Mark Richesin from Don Pedro who won an $800 gift certificate to Gold Rush Honda Yamaha!

There was plenty of shade, great breezes and cool beverages available, so after checking out the wonderful variety of cars and merchandise on display by the various vendors, attendees were able to simply sit back and enjoy the rock and blues of Frankenstein59, Snake Oil, The No Borders Blues Band and The Joe Dollar Band.

Amy Vercnocke, President of the Shindig Committee said, “I could not have done it without the help of my committee, the generous sponsors and other donors, as well as the great volunteers who worked to make it all come together.  My thanks to each and every one:
