The Award-winning "Pride of the Sierra",
Mariposa County High School's Grizzly Band; will
host the first annual Playathon Saturday March
20th from 11:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. in the
courtyard of the Mariposa History Center. The
event is to raise final funds for the band's
participation at Forum Music Festival's "Judges
Invitational" Concert Band Championship at
Disneyland on April 23rd. Ten of the nation's
finest high school concert bands will compete
for the 'Best of the Best' title.
The all-day Playathon will feature the Grizzly
Pep, Show and Concert Bands, the MCHS Advanced
Chorus and Concert Choir, the Mariposa Middle
School Band; and a variety of ensembles and
soloists including the famous Grizzly Drum-Line
and the self-described Sexy-phones (Saxophones),
who were selected as the outstanding section at
the 2009 Forum Festival in the Bay Area. Music
will run the gauntlet from popular stadium
favorites to Gustav Holst's "Mars, Bringer of
War".
Band members are accepting pledges until the day
of the event, and donations will be graciously
accepted on the grounds. Food and drinks will
also be available from the Band Booster
Organization and Sugar-Pine Pizza from
Oakhurst. Come out and enjoy some of the
Mountain's finest young musicians and support
them as they strive to represent the community
on the national stage.
