Mariposa County Fire Department was included in a select group of six recipients of the 2009 William F. Noli Outstanding Service Award at the Twentieth Annual Fresno Regional Occupational Program (ROP) Advisory Night. Present to receive the award were MCFD Fire Chief Jim Wilson and Mariposa High School Grizzly Fire Department instructors Chief Phil Whitson and Chief Doug O’Bannon.
The Fresno/Central San Joaquin ROP district includes twenty-two participating school districts from Fresno, Madera and Mariposa counties. Each participating school district supports numerous different ROP curricula. The Grizzly Fire ROP is a past Golden Bell recipient for the outstanding statewide ROP program and is generally recognized by educators as consistently one of the elite programs in California.
William F. Noli founded ROP thirty years ago and is acknowledged as the “Father of the Fresno Area ROP.” The Noli award is presented annually to an organization or individual who has excelled as a contributor and an advisor to a ROP group. Others honored at the annual dinner were American Ambulance Company, Community Regional Medical Center, T2 Architects, Clovis Unified’s Diane Genco, and Susan Fisher of Center for Advanced Research & Technology (CART).
MCFD has supported the Grizzly Fire Program since its inception in 1995 with a dedicated fire engine, water tender, self contained breathing apparatus (SCBA), small equipment and tools and adjunct instructors. Cal Fire and MPUD Fire are also long-time co-advisors to the Grizzly ROP.
