| Posted on Wednesday, June 28, 2006 - 1:29 pm: Hi Jerry, great shot, and clear too! As we talked about yesterday (Jerry can add to his list of accomplishments that he is now a judge of fine art!), the slide is well to the left of that photo. Or West, if you want to find it on a map. That shot is just about even with Savage's and the slide is just before the highway straightens out to go past the "geological exhibit". On a quad map, there is a tiny symbol for a spring, looks like a blue circle with a squiggly line coming out of it. You may need a magnifiying glass to see it! That's the spring that I believe has been referred to by experts. Lorie |

The Highway 140 Ferguson Rock Slide up close and personal.
This photo courtesy of Mr. Glenn Bell who is the information
officer for the slide, dramatically shows why Caltrans is going
to go around this slide instead of trying to clear it out.
Read the Sierra Sun Times for Caltrans ambitious time table
for a temporary bridge to be put in. Let us hope that the permits
go through smoothly, the slide cooperates by staying in place
and work can safely begin on the bridge reroute to Foresta Bridge.

Division of Interpretation, Yosemite National Park.

Getting Closer !
This photo from Caltrans, ( Possibly a video pull ) shows
the temporary bridge being put up over the Merced River.
Taken two days ago the bridge is getting closer to
completion for a scheduled opening by the end of the month.

It can be erected quickly and support the heaviest of equipment. Around the world many of them are still in use, even since the forties. There is one down on Bubbs Creek in Kings Canyon that has been there for decades. I am touched by nostalgia to see this in use, as I was in a bridging company in the army. |

But according to very knowlegeable sources these are not the first sightings of these strange objects in Mariposa County ! Years ago in this same canyon, but closer to El Portal these same objects were installed temporarily ! |
