The Goldrushcam Crew is thinking about climbing Mt. Dana before the snows set in. Any advice or people who want to huff and puff to the top of this mountain at over 13,000 feet of elevation send an email to us. or post it here |

I'd love to join you. I did Mt. Dana 3 times long ago and slept on top once. The view is spectacular! Two times I started out from the Tioga Pass entrance, followed the obvious route up onto the hump on the north side and then scrambled up the boulders to the top from that side. Once I did it from the glacier side, but that is not a good idea. That side is very steep and very easy to knock rocks down on any companions. 13,000 feet is just at the level where I would get headaches and nauseous. It is a very good idea to at least spend the previous night at 9000' and get an early start. Of course, it is important to have lots of water and drink often. Climbing from the north side is not technical at all, just several thousand feet of rock scrambling. Every time you rest, you can enjoy the widening view.
