Hot Air Balloon At ClovisFest 2006

Day two at ClovisFest brought out the hot air balloons
for another early morning lift-off from the Rodeo grounds.
The propane flames illuminate the interior of this balloon
as the sun rises in the East.

On a morning with the temps in the 50's when the balloon operator would ignite the propane for lift in the balloon the heat from the flame could be felt and heard.

Hundreds of adults, most towing children along, arrived at about 5:30 in the morning to watch these silent machines fill up and then lift off into the early morning sky.
